She is not the fastest nor the most athletic, but few on the Michigan State women’s lacrosse team play with with more poise or fundamental skills. Sappe, who hails from the modern birthplace of American lacrosse, Baltimore, Maryland, was well trained and she knows how to play the game. The crafty and shifty defenseman will be a vital clog on the Spartan defensive machine. “She plays close defense as well as anybody on our team. She’s smart, understands the game and rarely makes a mistake,” said Brent Hiner, the Spartan’s defensive coach. “Our defense improves this year because of players like Mackenzie.” |
