The long trail of athletic uncertainty ended a year ago for Kelly Bertolini as she established herself as the Spartans’ first sting net minder by working hard and believing she could have success between the pipes. She begins the spring of 2017 as the MSU starting goalie. The Grosse Pointe North High School graduate returned to a position she played as a freshman for the first time two years ago and continued to grow and grow as the Spartans’ starting net minder in 2015. “The move to goalie is never easy, but it was easier for Kelly because she’s so athletic and more importantly because she is a smart player who uses lacrosse IQ to play at a high level. “What Kelly did last year was amazing having never really played goaltender at the collegiate level. We won double digit games last year because of her ability and she’s only getting better,” said Greg Normand, MSU's head coach. “I love Kelly more than you know because she’s just a great young lady,” he said. |
