SBCC Finishes WWLL Season With 16-4 Win Over Cal State Fullerton

By SBCC News Desk 04/16/2023, 9:30pm EDT

San Diego, CA - The Vaqueros outscored the Titans 16-4 in the WWLL ChampionshipTournament third place game to bounce back from their disappointing semifinal loss on Saturday.  A 7-0 first quarter was the real SBCC team in this one. Saturday in the 12-9 loss to UC Santa Cruz the Vaqueros were frustrated during shooting.  Not so in this game as they were 7 of 9 in the first 15 minutes of the contest.

Sophomore Sabrina Forbes (Santa Clarita, CA) led all scorers with 3 goals and 2 assists. Close behind her were freshman Kiara Kofoed (Orinda, CA) with four goals and sophomore Marianna Gammet (Redondo, CA) with 3 goals and 1 assist. Eight SBCC players contributed goals and assists to the offense.  Sophomore goalie Tatum Davis (Redondo, CA) had six saves.

SBCC is now 10-1 overall and waiting for word about an at-large bid to the WCLA National Championship Tournament in Virginia Beach May 9th - 12th.  Sixteen teams are selected for the tournament.  Half the field will be made up of conference automatic qualifer (AQ) teams and the other half will come from the next best eight teams in the WCLA.  The Vaqueros were ranked 8th in the April 10th WCLA poll when they were 9-0 before the WWLL Tournament. The committee will have to weigh overall body of work with their two most recent results.
