Tigers are Texas Bound

The Fighting Lady Tigers of LSU are heading to far North Dallas this weekend to face division opponents University of North Texas & Texas Christian University. The games were originally scheduled to take place a UNT’s home field, however the wintery & wet weather all week & forecasted for Saturday have caused a relocation. The games will now take place at Coppell Middle School North, in Coppell, TX. The facility boasts a turf field & the games will be played over the course of Saturday with LSU set to play UNT at 10 am & then TCU at 2pm. TCU & UNT will face off against each other at noon.

The purple & gold will travel with a slightly lighter roster this weekend due to 6 players having scheduling conflicts with school or work. The team has been working hard this week to prepare the traveling roster to handle the work load & we will see many players in multiple positions this weekend. “We got a solid game plan that we’ve been working on at practice & we’ll see some young players stepping up in key roles for us to help rest our legs on Saturday” states Coach Casey McDonald.

All 3 programs will be jockeying for post season placement as LSU is currently undefeated at 3-0, 1-0 on the season while TCU sits at 3-1, 1-1 & UNT is 1-1, 1-0. The 2015 TWLL Playoffs will have a 4 team format in each Division this season: #1 vs #4 & #2 vs #3. The winner of each will face for the TWLL Division Championship; the 2 defeated teams will play for 3rd place. As it stands this week; SMU, LSU, TCU, & North Texas are in position to make the postseason tournament set to take place in Austin, TX at the University of Texas the weekend of April 18th. The winner of each TWLL Division will earn an AQ Bid to the National Finals Tournament in Virginia Beach, VA for a shot at the National Title.

LSU has not lost to UNT in the 2 games previously played between the programs. In late March of 2014 the Lady Tigers hosted UNT for a 19-8 victory in which many current players found their rhythm at that point in the season. With the win, the Tigers went on to win 3 of their remaining 4 games in the regular season on their way to their 2nd playoff berth. Back in late March of the 2013 season LSU traveled to North Texas & fought for the 15-12 victory over the Mean Lady Green.

The Lady Tigers will face TCU for the 1st time this Saturday.  The Lady Horned Frogs are bringing a powerful offense to Coppell this weekend having outscored opponents 54-36 in 4 games this season. LSU comes into the contest with a comparison of 49 goals scored & 15 allowed thru 3 games, all in conference play. LSU will have its core defensive unit making the trip in an effort to slow down the TCU offensive attack. Defensive & Speed/Agility Coach Lauren Davenport adds "the girls have worked hard and are ready to play hard this weekend against North Texas and Texas Christian. It's wonderful to be able to coach such a great group of young women and to see their hard work pay off on and off the field”. Junior Kaci Rogers (Winnfield, LA) will be in goal for LSU coming into the weekend with a 60% save mark on the season. That number has her listed as 2nd in the nation behind GVSU goalie Rachel Jurczyszyn’s 78%.
